Hi Rob. Re: Learning.. via reading, listening or video...  for me ...video wins hands down ! Example: The video of you working with the ‘ Dog phobia girl was worth a couple of weighty books..as was watching you working with Larry and his ‘ golfing issues’ etc etc..(only wish I could learn to log onto your zoom sessions without major anxiety attacks!)

I prefer to learn by watching a person demonstrate a task, and then practising it myself with their guidance. The course I am currently doing consisted of four face-to-face sessions (4 days per block) conducted over four months, and then the remainder of the year being written or video recorded assessments. I loved the face-to-face sessions, but I've found the rest of the course a real grind.

One of the benefits of asking a client how they learnt something is that you can use their preferred method in the therapy - e.g. if someone prefers to learn by reading, you can refer to aspects of reading when you're delivering a message. One of my friends loves to read, so when I worked with her I asked her to focus on how she felt when becoming absorbed in a good book  .... and the trance developed quickly from there.

I like to watch or at least listen to a video while reading the transcript while writing down notes of the key points as they come up. That seems to be my most effective learning strategy. "Problems are learned limitations" Brilliant, profound and certainly true. I would expect nothing less from Milton. To me it seems step one for our clients.for ourselves needs to be the acceptance, the agreement to "yes I do in fact have the capacity to change. the ability to learn something new. a new way of dealing with this thing which has bothered me. So often it seems people get stuck on this point leaving stuck in a place of hopelessness that their problem is just too big to overcome. Stuck with their doubt they can do anything about it. " I want to stop doing this behavior and have failed before and that is proof that my habit or my addiction is just too powerful to overcome." In such a case they have in fact learned to succumb to the limitations of their beliefs. Until they open themselves up to the idea that they can be different and accept that they can change they will remain intransigent and stuck in their suffering. it is the devil they know and they find some comfort in that place in spite of the downside.

I learn a lot by reading, writing and reflecting; then having a go at something myself. Also by watching videos of other people doing something - even someone demonstrating how to show compassion to herself.

I also know that I learn quickest and most deeply when I'm having fun. And I also know that I've learned some deep truths as a direct transmission of energy from someone else.
